His Holiness Patriarch Porfirios of Serbia served on June 23. 2024, the Feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Pentecostal Apostles, the Holy Liturgy in the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Hamburg. On this occasion, Patriarch Porphyry performed the act of the great consecration of this holy church.
Serving were: the Most Reverend Bishops Metropolitans Gregory of Germany and Nicodemus of Dalmatia; the Most Reverend Bishops Irinej of Washington-New York and Eastern America, John of Puckratz and Slavonia, Sergius of Bihaczko-Petrovsk and John of Hum; with the prayerful participation of many faithful people. During the Holy Liturgy, Archpriest Siniša Vujasinović was honored with the right to wear the pectoral cross.
- It is our duty to be witnesses to the name of Christ wherever we are - and especially when we are in exile," Patriarch Porphyry said and emphasized: Here, in the dispersion, it is necessary not only to acquire material goods, but also so that by living Christ we can be fully integrated into the space in which we live, and at the same time, without complexes and fear, we can open ourselves to those with whom we come into contact and communication, so that our faith and love can be a bridge through which we enrich those for whom God has brought us here, but also, internally and intrinsically, we are also enriched by them.
- When we are gathered in Christ, as we are today, our souls are is always joyful, peaceful and filled with joy. There is no fear, no sense of loneliness, no sense of loss. All of us know this, all of us whom God has looked upon, and everyone who has been touched by the grace of the Holy Spirit knows this. It is important that you, brothers and sisters, who live in Germany far from your native land, not only know this, but also gather yourselves in the house of God, because surely whatever meets as a temptation, as a difficulty, will not only be borne and endured with ease, but also overcome with ease. When our root is together with the root of Christ, when it is in His Church, then we will be in our house and wherever we are in our house," said Patriarch Porphyrios, whose sermon you can read in full here.
