Today the Church honors the memory of the Great Martyr Christina, who was born in Tyre during the reign of Emperor Severus, around 200 AD. and she was the daughter of the Roman general Urban. Both her parents were pagans, but she herself was introduced to the Christian faith by a woman and made the decision to dedicate herself to Christ.
When her father was informed of this, he tried by words and threats to persuade her, and when he failed, he imprisoned her in a tower. The same night, however, death found him, which impressed many pagans and enraged the prefect Dion, who subjected the Christian daughter to terrible tortures in order to disillusion her and abandon her devotion to the Savior Christ.
Dion's successor Julian did the same and worse, but to no avail, for God protected St. Christina and healed the wounds inflicted by the horrible tortures.
Indeed, the successive miracles that God performed during her martyrdom caused many pagans, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, to confess faith in the true God and in our Savior Jesus Christ.
Finally, the Great Martyr Christina betrayed her spirit with a spear, deservedly receiving the crown of martyrdom, remaining steadfast in her faith in Christ.
Today, especially the female sex has its heroine in the person of St. Christina, who courageously gave the good testimony before persecutors and remained a presumption of struggle for all women who sacrifice daily for high ideals.
Today, the events of the Synaxarium of Martyrs may seem strange. But, dear ones, in many parts of the planet, especially in our neighborhoods in the Middle East, there are people who daily give good witness to the Faith and devotion to Jesus Christ by accepting suffering and torture.
Let us pray for these brothers of ours and every person on trial.
