Today the Church honors the memory of St. Clement, Bishop of Ankara, the holy martyr Agathangelos and St. Dionysius of Olympia, who was born in Thessaly at the end of the 15th century AD. His pious parents Nikolaos and Theodora raised him as a Christian and from childhood taught him to love truth, sobriety, temperance and virtue in general. After the death of his parents, he became a monk at Meteora and then at the monastery of Philotheos on Mount Athos. He went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and at his request settled in the hermitage of Veria in Macedonia, which he reorganized and elevated spiritually.
His desire for peace, as well as his desire to avoid the bishopric, led him to Mount Olympus in the prefecture of Pieria, where he first practiced asceticism and then founded a monastery, which survives to this day and which was bombed by the Germans during the Second World War
War. Having received the gift of healing from God, St. Dionysius healed those who took refuge in the monastery with faith and humility. Even after his death, his gracious relic became a source of miracles for those who seek his grace with faith and reverence.
It should be noted that today the monastic brotherhood of St. Dionysius on Olympus is moving to a new monastery in Litochoro, Pieria, as the old monastery is blocked most of the time by the snows of Olympus.
Saints and ascetics by their Through their labors and sacrifices they became the most authentic examples of people who applied in their lives the word of Jesus Christ: "the rulers followed Him everywhere" and remain for all future lights of our Orthodoxy.
In addition, thanks to the contributions and efforts of St. Dionysius' parents, which we mentioned above to emphasize the significant value of the efforts and sacrifices that parents make every day in studying the Bible to raise and educate their children to go out into society worthy, bright and good in character and personality.
It is distinctively pointed out that it is good and beneficial to study the holy gospel in the home as well. Of course, not just as ordinary reading, but prayerfully and reverently. Because, as St. Chrysostom emphasizes, "the reading of the Holy Scriptures is the source of heaven." (In the saying... "I have seen the Lord...", Word II, EP 56, 109). In other words, while reading Scripture, heaven opens up and God himself speaks to the hearts of people.
