On November 8, 2024, on the day of commemoration of the Great Martyr Demetrius of Solunsk, the hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Central America died suddenly at the age of 77.

Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Central America (in the world — Lukyanov Pavel Andreyevich) was born on August 9, 1948 in San Francisco. There he studied at the Cyril and Methodius Russian Church gymnasium and high school.
.August 19, 1965, St. John (Maximovitch; †1966) was made a reader. He was an acolyte of St. John, helped him and accompanied him on archpastoral trips. In September 1966 he entered Sacred Trinity Seminary and since then he has lived at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville.
In 1971-1976, he worked under the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad, assisting Bishop Laurel of Manhattan. After graduating from seminary, he graduated from Norwich University and the Faculty of Theology at the University of Belgrade.
.On March 2, 1987 he became a novice. In 1988 he was tonsured into monasticism and ordained a hierodeacon by Archbishop Laurus of Syracuse and Trinity.
April 25, 1989 he was ordained a hieromonk. He taught at Holy Trinity Seminary the History of the Church, History of the World and Civilization, and was an inspector of the seminary. From monastic obediences — carried the post of secretary of the Spiritual Cathedral of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville.
