The 43rd International Festival of Orthodox Church Music in Hajnówka was opened on Monday, May 13, 2024, at St. Peter's Cathedral in Hajnówka by His Eminence Sava, Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland. A special celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the granting of independence to the Orthodox Church in Poland. Next week little Hajnówka will become the capital of Podlasie thanks to a music festival.

After the service, His Eminence Metropolitan Savva addressed the audience with a memorial word, emphasizing that this year's festival has a deep and historical dimension. The festive Church singing for the 100th anniversary of autocephaly is the voice of our love for You, our Savior and Lord. The singing of the Church is Your voice in us humans, because every note is Your breath. As we sing during Easter, we realize Your victory over death .

At the end of the speech, Metropolitan Savva awarded Fr. Mitrat Michal Negerevic, director of the festival, with the Order of St. Mary Magdalene, 1st class, for his services and work for the good of the Church.


Traditionally, the opening evening of the festival in Hajnówka gathered such personalities as: Archbishop Grzegorz of Bielsk, Bishop Pawel of Hajnówka, Bishop Andrzej of Suras, Bishop Warsonofiusz of Siemiatycki. The Orthodox clergy were widely represented. Representatives of the Roman Catholic Church, headed by the senior bishop of Drohiczyn, Tadeusz Pikus, were present. There were also representatives of the central and local authorities of the voivodship and the local level, law enforcement agencies, state forests, members of the European Parliament, local authorities. activists and public, and above all, parishioners of Hajnówka.


The festival was opened on behalf of the local authorities by the Mayor of Hajnówki Ireneusz Kędysz, who wished the organizers, participants and listeners, "...that the church singing that will be performed in this temple will be a spiritual lesson, a time of reflection and an artistic experience. To unite rather than divide in these troubled times. It brought peace and understanding..."


During the ceremony, representatives of the Foundation. Prince Konstantin Basil Ostrozhsky Anna Radziukiewicz and Eugeniusz Cikwin presented awards named after the patron of the Foundation. The awards were given to: Magdalena Zhdaniuk and Fr. Jarosława Jozwiku for their work in translating the Suprasła Codex into the modern language, Fr. George Latuszka from Minsk, the Brotherhood of the Three Saints under the leadership of Slawomir Nazaruk, and Prof. Stefan Dudra.
