On June 11 the Russian Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Apparition of the Honest and Life-Creating Cross of the Lord near the town of Rostov the Great on the Sakhot bog (1423). The cross stays in the church of St. John Chrysostom in the village of Godenovo (now the subvillage of the Pereslavl Nikolsky nunnery of the Pereslavl diocese).

But most of all, glorifying the Cross of the Lord, we turn our mental gaze to those terrible times when the Divine Master was crucified on Golgotha. He should not have been lifted up on the Cross. But out of jealousy, as Simeon the New Theologian points out to us, the Jews not only rejected Christ as a teacher, as a preacher or prophet, they also rejected Him as the Messiah, and this was most terrible… the Lord came into the world for the sake of human salvation, came to give His life and reunite man with God»
