On November sixteenth of this year, the Municipal Cultural Center of Minsk-Mazowiecki hosted a jubilee event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the 35th anniversary of the restoration of the Lublin-Chelm Orthodox Diocese. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.
The Minsk jubilee celebrations were based on three pillars: word - theological and historical lectures, image - movie screening and singing - concert of Orthodox church music.
At the beginning of the event the guests were welcomed. Then the rulers of Minsk land spoke and expressed their gratitude to the Orthodox Church in Poland on the occasion of such an important anniversary. It was also emphasized that the specific fruit of autocephaly is the restored thirty-five years ago Lublin-Chelm diocese and the newly revived Orthodox parish of St. Spyridon in Minsk-Mazowiecki.
The first part of the event featured two lectures. Archbishop Abel gave a theological and canonical lecture, emphasizing the authenticity of the events of a century ago. Dr. Hub then spoke about the more than one thousand years of historical presence of the Orthodox Church on the territory of the Republic of Poland. Roman Wysocki from the Institute of Contemporary History Marie Curie-Sklodowska University.
The second part of the evening meeting was devoted to the showing of the film Lublin-Chelm Diocese as a spiritual fruit of the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Poland. The film was produced by the Diocese of Lublin-Chelm.
The last part of the event was dedicated to Orthodox church music. Two choirs performed before the audience: the choir of the Orthodox parish in Minsk-Mazowiecki, which made its debut on the stage, and the male ensemble of Orthodox church music from Lublin. The concert repertoire included, among others: troparions to St. Spyridon, the patron saint of the Minsk parish, and St. Atanazi Brzeski, the patron saint of the Lublin-Chelm diocese.
The event was summarized by the rector of the Orthodox parish in Minsk-Mazowiecki, Fr. Dr. Gabriel Belomyzhy. The priest thanked those gathered for coming, and also mentioned the unique circumstances of the meeting - the 100th anniversary of autocephaly and the 35th anniversary of the restoration of the diocese.
During the event, the parish council of the Orthodox parish in Minsk-Mazovetsky presented Archbishop Avel with a commemorative basket of flowers emphasizing the anniversary of the episcopal consecration.
The co-organizers of the Minsk event were: the Chelmsk Orthodox Cultural Center, the Orthodox Diocese of Lublin and Chelmsk, the Orthodox Parish of St. Svi. Spyridon Trimitunski in Minsk-Mazowieckie, the Diocesan Center of Orthodox Culture FRONTIDA and the local government of Mazowieckie Voivodeship.
