The importance of religion in strengthening the family and society: a lecture by His Beatitude Patriarch John X at the Al-Osman Mosque

His Beatitude Patriarch John X and His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Abdul-Sattar Al-Sayed, Syrian Minister of Awqaf Affairs, delivered a dialogue lecture on "The Importance of Religion in Strengthening Families and Societies" at the Al-Othman Mosque in Damascus. The event was part of an educational dialogue program organized by the Ministry of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) which was attended by imams, preachers, Quranic teachers, religious education staff, as well as several metropolitans, bishops, priests and laymen.
After the Minister of Awqaf welcomed His Beatitude, the Patriarch presented his speech, dividing its content into the following sections:
1- The theological foundations of the Christian concepts of humanity, marriage and family.
2. Contemporary problems facing families today.
3. ethical issues in life science.
4. The role of the family in modern society.
In conclusion, His Beatitude emphasized the urgent need today, more than ever before, to prioritize the care of families and the solution of the problems they face, taking into account the psychological ones, material, spiritual and social aspects of both the family and the surrounding society.
He also stressed the Church's decision to focus on preserving the family and promoting the joy of the Lord's presence in its life, recognizing that attacks and destabilization of families threaten the cornerstone of our society.
His Eminence the Minister of Awqaf commented on the issues raised, affirming that all the family principles and fundamentals mentioned by His Beatitude are also fundamental aspects of Islamic education. The seminar ended with questions and speeches from the audience.
