Old Georgian liturgical collections preserved the rule of consecration of lamps ("Consecration of lamps", "Consecration of lamps", "Consecration of lamps" dash). Three editions of this blessing are known; two of them are Sinurian manuscripts of the 10th century, and the third is a few post-Athonian manuscripts of the 17th-18th centuries.
The text of the "Consecration of the Candles" presented below is compared and based mainly on the third, most complete, manuscript.
Blessing of the Candles
After the end of the prayer service (or service), people wait for the blessing of candles with unlit candles and kelaptras. There are also kelaptras and candles in the church, prepared for the altar on a table with three candles (to burn) attached to a candlestick in front of it.
Deacon: Let us pray to the Lord
Priest:
"O strong God, Lord of the powers and the earth, of the sea and all the ends of the earth, who is established in light and untouchable, who are the Cherubim of the upper thrones, the Great, _ _ _ _ all those who are born to thee; The powers that are incorporeal will praise Thee, worship Thee with the archangels, the seraphim and cherubim will sing the Tridentine chant with the voice of the silent, with light unspeakable; _ _ _ I glorify Thee, because Thou art humble in lowliness, and wast made of virgins and men like unto men. Today become a temple, the savior of Chueno, and rest in the arms of the elder Simeon, whom angels cannot look upon, the fire of the Godhead. Today , Lord, we beseech Thee for enlightenment for soul and flesh and for the inexhaustible riches of Thy Godhead, that Thou wouldst pour down over and above these candles the grace of the Holy Spirit; let this lamp shine like a virgin of wise men, with whom Thou wilt come to Thy throne with the candle of Thy kingdom, and it is worth it - let us create with thanksgiving inexhaustible glory with Thee and the Father. And from the Holy of Holies, now and forever and ever. Amen."
Peace be with you all!
Deacon: We bow our heads before our Lord.
Priest by profession:
"O Lord, who knew us and changed us to live on earth as a kinsman of men, before whom the unbelievers prophesied to us of your coming, Christ, the lie of God, who from the indivisible Father and the Sovereign and from the inexpressibly radiant virgin of blessed and immaculate beauty, will come in the flesh as before, - you were born according to the will of your father, you were born as a child, you appeared as a child, you bore the bosom of virgins, surrounded by many angels; Today in the temple of the Lord , for the execution of judgment , you were as a man , and Simeon the elder took you in his arms as a child , to whom the Holy Spirit gave you a tail , unseen , than the Lord , who came in the flesh , saw you , and He saw you , He was a mighty cry and preached to us as a light shining to the Gentiles . Guahara the Evangelist, let us, your unworthy servants, shine ;
Worthy are we to appear Before you with virtue and righteousness, may our hearts be enlightened by the baptism of your divinity, and may the lamps of our souls shine, and bless the candles, as wise virgins, who will receive you with joy, that we may be made liars of God. Sing with the angels and glorify the immortal priest alone together with the Holy Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages, Amen.
Deacon: Let us pray to the Lord.
The priest lights three candles attached to the candlestick and says the prayer "Consecration of the Candle":
" We thank you who exist in heaven and on earth, we bring you the candle of your holy son Jesus Christ, who shines the light of truth in the hearts of the silent, and your light shines to those who live . _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ in darkness and in the shadow of ghosts . For all this talent , we thank and worship you , Father , and Son , and Holy Spirit , now and ever , and forever . Amen !"
Deacon: Let us pray to the Lord
The priest takes one candle from the altar candles placed before him, lights it from the three lighted candles and says:
"Light the candle, worldly man, for the nature of fire is created, and the life of light is grateful to you. We thank thee above all things and offer thy candle to thy glorious coming, that thou mayest lead us in light for ever and ever by thy grace and mercy and thy loving Christ, for thine is the eternal glory, for ever and ever. Amen!
(Note that this prayer is also recited at any other time during the consecration of the candle). The priest carries the candle in his left hand, and with his right hand sprinkles the candles with holy water, both on the table and among the people.
The choir (or people) sings:
Now let your servant go in peace according to the word of your master, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations, as a bright shining light to the Gentiles and for the glory of your people Israel.
The priest shall set up the altar, take the lighted candle in his right hand and hang it over the deacon and the congregation, and the whole temple shall shine with lighted consecrated candles.
Then the priest with a candle and sprinkling of holy water, the deacon with a candle and censer, the plasterers with banners and icons and the parishioners with lighted candles come out and feed the church with litanies and hymns.
At the entrance to the church:
Deacon: Let us pray to the Lord
Priest:
Lord God , who created light and gave birth to darkness , who created the nature of fire for thy service , we beseech thee and sacrifice thy day to worship him . _ _ _ _ _ _ I am worthy of thy eternal light, where all thy saints are dead, _ _ _ _ _ _
Because Thou art the Enlightener of souls and flesh , and we sacrifice to Thy glory , Father and Son and Holy Spirit , now and ever and unto ages of ages , Amen !
This concludes the service.
The faithful bring the consecrated candle home and light it throughout the year on both major holidays and special occasions and at any time of their choosing.
Like holy water, we should have a holy candle in our home.
Attention clergy : _
In general, both water and candle can be consecrated at any time, but just as consecrated water on Epiphany is special, so is a consecrated candle on the feast of Mirkami Mirkami.
