Исторический образ Божией Матери «Всех скорбящих Радость» возвращен в Храм Христа Спасителя

On November 5, 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the ancient icon of the Mother of God «Joy of All Who Sorrow» was returned to the Cathedral Cathedral Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow and installed in its historical place.

The icon arrived at the Cathedral with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and was accompanied by the rector of the Patriarchal Subcourt at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

The icon arrived at the cathedral accompanied by the rector of the Patriarchal suburb of the Cathedral of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Church of Russia in Novokosin in Moscow, the editor-in-chief of the magazine «Temramozdatel» Archpriest Vladimir Klyuev and parishioners of the temple. The historical image was greeted by the clergyman of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior Protopriest Mikhail Ryazantsev.

The ancient icon of the Mother of God «Joy of All Who Sorrow» was handed over to the Church by Alexei Vladimirovich Kudinov, responding to Archpriest Vladimir Klyuev's sermon on the return of the holy icons, saved by our ancestors during the period of godlessness in Russia from 1917 to 1987 from destroyed churches. A.V. Kudinov said that his grandmother Anastasia Kudinova, born in 1906, saved and preserved this image. She lived on Frunzenskaya embankment of Moscow and was a parishioner of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior until its destruction. The icon dates from the end of the XIX — the beginning of the XX century, written on a cypress board 57,8x47,8 cm (ground, oil).

Starting from April 2023 Archpriest Vladimir Klyuev together with the Andrei Rublev Central Museum of Old Russian Culture and Art carried out work on attribution of the found icon. As a result, it was discovered that the iconography of the icon under study coincides with the image «Theotokos "Joy of All Who Sorrow"» by Fyodor Andreyevich Bronnikov (1827-1902), Russian artist, iconographer, academician of painting.

August 15 this year, the department of expertise and art criticism of the Andrei Rublev Museum made conclusions to determine the time of painting and the level of iconography: «Icon "Our Lady «Joy of All Who Sorrow»" has historical-cultural, artistic and museum value». The icon is executed in an academic manner, characteristic of the works of artists who worked on the orders of the Church.

After the expertise was received the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to transfer the icon to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
