At the suggestion of His Holiness Patriarch of Serbia, Mr. Porphyrios, the Holy Synod of Bishops appointed His Eminence Mr. Stefan, Vicar Bishop of Remesia, as the new Elder of the Podvorye and representative of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Moscow, since this important position was left vacant after the death of Bishop Anthony of Moravia.
In proposing his vicar-bishop, His Holiness Patriarch Mr. Porfiry had in mind that his life path from his early youth was connected with brotherly Russia and the sister Russian Church. The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church is convinced that Bishop Stefan's love for the spirituality of the Russian people and the friendship he has achieved will improve and strengthen the ties between the two Churches.
Bishop Stephen celebrated his first divine service as the new elder of the Serbian Orthodox Church on Easter night, May 5, 2024, in the church of the Serbian Orthodox Church dedicated to the chief apostles Peter and Paul. At the end of the service, the new elder shared with the faithful in a very warm speech his memories of the cooperation and mutual ties with his predecessor, Bishop Anthony.
