In the capital of Syria, in the temple of Elijah the Prophet, a Christmas tree was held for disabled children. Reported by RIA Novosti. The holiday was presented to boys and girls by Christian volunteers from the Society of Queen Zenobia. Its representative, Khadiya Suleiman, noted that on the eve of Christmas, it is more appropriate than ever to pay maximum attention to those who often miss him. “We came here to give this holiday to children with disabilities together. For many of them, this is the only opportunity to be in the spotlight, ”she said. Khadiya recalled that the organization she represents bears the name of the ancient queen, who spent a lot of effort and money on charity. The rector of the temple of the Prophet Elijah noted that this Christmas is the first one that the Christians of Damascus meet in a peaceful atmosphere; however, in previous years, caring for disabled children did not stop. “We decided to gather our wards, 25 of them, to celebrate Christmas. In addition, recently a special day was celebrated in our country for such people, and I think this is a great occasion to get together, ”said Father Johan Schhade. Representatives of the Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties also attended the Christmas tree at the Christian parish of Damascus. They brought Tula gingerbread as a gift to the children.
