The Georgian authorities have decided not to close churches on Easter due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus. Instead, believers will be invited to pray together during the festive worship service in large, spacious temples where security measures can be observed. In small churches, festive services will also take place, but there will be no parishioners in them.

“We have decided that the law will not be violated, churches will not be closed, and social distance will be observed in order to take care of the health and lives of our citizens,” said Irakli Chikovani, spokesman for the head of the Georgian government.

Other measures will be taken to save from possible infection. In particular, near the churches, where lay believers will come on Easter night, police officers will be on duty, who will monitor the observance of the instructions of the Ministry of Health of the country.
