Church of Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica was consecrated in Kursk

В Курске освятили храм великомученика Димитрия Солунского

On November 8, the day when the Orthodox Church commemorates the great martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, a church was consecrated in Kursk in the name of this revered saint. The rite of the great consecration was performed by the ruling bishop - Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk, in collaboration with the local clergy.

The Church of St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki in Tretye Stepnoy Lane appeared back in 2002, and the parish itself in the name of the saint was registered in Kursk five years earlier. Construction and decoration work continued for many years - and, finally, by the patronal day of this year, the temple was completely ready for the great consecration. It took place with a large gathering of local parishioners and believers from other parishes of the city.

The Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki, also known as Demetrius the Myriotochets, suffered for the faith of Christ in 306 AD, during the reign of the Roman emperor Diocletian. Together with the great martyr George the Victorious and the holy noble Prince Alexander Nevsky, he is revered as the patron saint of the Russian army.
