On November 8, the day when the Orthodox Church commemorates the great martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, a church was consecrated in Kursk in the name of this revered saint. The rite of the great consecration was performed by the ruling bishop - Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk, in collaboration with the local clergy.

The Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki, also known as Demetrius the Myriotochets, suffered for the faith of Christ in 306 AD, during the reign of the Roman emperor Diocletian.
