Part of the relics of John the Baptist was brought to the Kazan Cathedral of St. Petersburg

An ark with a particle of the relics of the prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John was brought to the northern capital of Russia from the Holy Land. On the evening of March 9, Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga offered up a prayer in front of the shrine in the Kazan Cathedral. And from eight o'clock in the morning of the next day, the relics of the saint were open for the worship of believers - in order to venerate them early, people stood in line even at night. According to the 'Petersburg Diary', on March 10 alone, six thousand believers from St. Petersburg and pilgrims who arrived from other cities and villages of Russia venerated the shrine. The queue at the cathedral lasted until four in the evening, and then gradually began to decline.

The relics of the saint, from whose hands the Lord Jesus Christ Himself was baptized in the waters of the Jordan, arrived in St. Petersburg from the St. John the Baptist Monastery in Jerusalem. They will stay in the city on the Neva until March 17; it will be possible to venerate the shrine located in the Kazan Cathedral every day, at eight o'clock in the morning until eleven in the evening.
