A new Old Believer prayer house was consecrated in Chelyabinsk

В Челябинске освятили новый старообрядческий молитвенный дом

On November 4, Christians of the Chelyabinsk community of the Old Orthodox Pomor Church gathered together to hold a prayer service for the consecration of a new prayer house.

As 'Ruskaia Vra' reports with reference to the site of the Old Believers-Pomors, for the solemn prayer service to the Temple Feast of the Holy Trinity came the teachers of the communities, their assistants and Old Believers from different cities and villages of the Urals. At the end of the prayer service, a procession of the cross took place, followed by a fraternal meal.

An initiative group on the construction of a new prayer house gathered in Chelyabinsk in 2015 under the leadership of the chairman of the local community Dmitry Anfimovich Kargapolov. The members of the group held public hearings, approved the project of the building and raised funds for its construction. The prayer house was built by the parishioners themselves in two years. Communications were brought to the building, an iconostasis was erected inside. Now the believers need to improve the courtyard.

The Old Believer Pomor community of Chelyabinsk has existed for a century and a half. It was founded by settlers from the Russian North who left for the Urals from persecution for their faith. Most of the Old Believers were peasants or worked in the factories of Akinfiy Demidov. In 1910, the believers built a six-domed wooden temple, which in the godless era was taken from the community and destroyed. In the fifties of the last century, the community bought a private house for church needs, where services were held for about thirty years. In the eighties, in connection with the planned development of the city, it was necessary to purchase another house, on Volgogradskaya Street, which was repaired and expanded for liturgical purposes. It served until the beginning of the new century, when, due to the dilapidated building and communications, the question arose about the construction of a new building. A new prayer house was erected on the old plot of land - it is spacious enough for members of the local community to gather for prayer, as well as their fellow believers who come on holidays from other parishes of the Urals.
