Estonia proposed to posthumously reward Patriarch Alexy II

В Эстонии предложили посмертно наградить патриарха Алексия Второго
In the Jõhvi volost, local residents came up with the initiative to confer the title of honorary citizen on a native of Estonia, former Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II. This was reported by the Federal News Agency with reference to the ERR portal. The future patriarch of the Russian Church, Alexei Mikhailovich Ridiger was born in Tallinn in 1929. Frequent trips to Balaam strengthened his resolve to take the priesthood path. In the sixties of the last century, he bore the obedience of the abbot of the Yikhvin Epiphany Church. In 1990, being already a metropolitan, he was elected to the post of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia - and he held it until his departure to the Lord in December 2008. During his patriarchate, there was an unprecedented scale of church building throughout the post-Soviet space - as well as the reunification of the two branches of the single Russian Church, local and foreign. The decision to confer the title of honorary citizen on the late patriarch was made during a round table that brought together representatives of the society, government and religious confessions of Estonia. All those present unanimously supported this initiative. However, the final decision on this matter is to be made by the members of the Yikhvi city council.
