According to New.ru in Israel, the Ministry of Defense of this country is currently engaged in mine clearance in the area of Qasr al-Yahud, north of the Dead Sea, near the Jordanian border. It was here, according to the Gospel, that Jesus Christ received the baptism from St. John the Baptist. This place is revered by Christians of different denominations and regularly attracts pilgrims from all over the world. However, due to the fact that during the 1967 war, a significant part of the local territory was mined, the pilgrimage routes here are strictly regulated and have severe restrictions. During this and next year, it is planned to clear about a square kilometer of the territory from which, according to preliminary estimates, about three thousand mines, anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, as well as artillery shells and other items dangerous to human life and health will be removed. The Israeli Defense Ministry is implementing a mine clearance project in the Qasr al-Yahud area in cooperation with the Halo Trust, which has been raising funds for this purpose since 2016. The Halo Trust has been clearing landmines for twenty years; its specialists work in fifteen countries of the world, including Georgia, Somalia, Ukraine, Kosovo and a number of others.
