On May 17, Georgia traditionally celebrates the Day of Family Cohesion and Holiness. The event is organized by the Davittiani youth movement, acting with the blessing of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The procession of Georgian Christians in support of traditional family values will begin at noon on Rose Square and proceed to Sameba Cathedral. There, the Georgian Patriarch, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilya II will serve a festive prayer service, address the faithful with an archpastoral word and bless the families and all residents of the country. Due to the fact that the number of participants in the march of supporters of traditional family values is growing from year to year, roads in the center of the Georgian capital are already blocked in the morning - in particular, Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue and all streets crossing it will be closed for traffic this time. May 17 is marked on the calendar as the International Day against Homophobia, but the Georgian representatives of the LGBT community decided this year to abandon the flash mob at the Georgian Chancellery. In turn, the retaliatory action was canceled by the nationalist organization 'Georgian March': its participants will join the general procession, which was blessed by the patriarch. “In the morning we will pray, and then we will join the event planned by the Patriarchate, we will also take part in the procession. Tomorrow will pass as it should, and I hope everything will be fine, ”said the leader of the“ Georgian March ”Sandro Bregadze the day before.
