Church from the film 'The Island' burned down in Karelia

The decoration church from the film 'The Island' on the shores of the White Sea burned to the ground, according to media reports.

“A two-story abandoned building was burning. Once it was used as a backdrop for the movie 'The Island', they made something like a church out of it. There are no dead or injured. Investigators went there to find out the causes of the fire and the amount of damage, ”the Emergencies Ministry said. As the local edition 'Respublika' writes with reference to the fire department of the Kemsky region in Karelia, the former salt hut caught fire, which was rebuilt into a church for filming the film 'The Island'.

The film 'The Island' directed by Pavel Lungin was released in 2006. The action of the picture unfolds in 1976, the main character (played by Pyotr Mamonov) is Father Anatoly, who is trying to atone for the murder of a comrade in arms during the Great Patriotic War. The film won six nominations for Nika awards, including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture of the Year.
