The idea of starting the year with a prayer for the sobriety of compatriots was given to the supporters of a conscious way of life by the church calendar: according to the calendar, on January 1, the memory of the holy martyr Boniphany is celebrated, marked with special power to help those suffering from the ailment of drunkenness.
