Mark 12: 28–37
One of the scribes, hearing their debate and seeing that Jesus answered them well, approached and asked Him: Which is the first of all the commandments?
Jesus answered him: the first of all the commandments: Hear, Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord;
and love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength - this is the first commandment!
The second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other greater commandment than these.
The scribe said to Him: good, Teacher! Thou hast told the truth that there is one God and there is none other than Him;
and to love Him with all your heart and with all your mind, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, is more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
Jesus, seeing that he answered intelligently, said to him: You are not far from the Kingdom of God. After that, no one dared to ask Him.
Continuing to teach in the temple, Jesus said: how do the scribes say that Christ is the Son of David?
For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.
So, David himself calls Him Lord: how is He his Son? And the multitudes listened to Him with delight.

Iannuariy (Ivliev) archimandrite, Interpretation of a group of verses: Mk: 12: 31-31
“Love your neighbor as yourself” - a quote from “Do not take revenge and do not bear anger against the sons of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord [your God]. ' A lion. 19:18.
But Jesus drastically shortened the quote.
In the original text, the word “neighbor” meant a Jew, that is, a fellow tribesman. The full quote is: 'Do not take revenge and do not bear grudge against the sons of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.' This rule did not apply to a pagan who could well be hated.
But Jesus quoted these words without referring to the Jews. He took the old law and filled it with new meaning. In addition, Jesus combined these two commandments. No rabbi has ever done this before.
So, God, ultimately, through all the many commandments and decrees, wants only one thing - the love of man. For Jesus, religion meant loving God and loving people. He would say that a person can only prove his love for God through his love for people.
