Interpretation of the Holy Gospel September 16

Theophylact Bulgarian. Commentary on the Gospel of Mark

Mark 3:28. Truly I say to you, all sins and blasphemy will be forgiven to the sons of men, no matter what blasphemy they blaspheme;
Mark 3:29. but whoever blasphemes the Holy Spirit, there will be no forgiveness forever, but he is subject to eternal condemnation.
Mark 3:30. He said these things, because they said, An unclean spirit is in him.

What the Lord says here means the following: people who sin in everything else can still apologize for something and receive forgiveness, according to God's condescension to human weakness. For example, koi called the Lord yatseya and vinopietsya, a friend of publicans and sinners, then they will receive forgiveness in this. But when they see that He works undoubted miracles, and meanwhile they blaspheme the Holy Spirit, that is, miracles that come from the Holy Spirit, then how will they receive forgiveness if they do not repent? When they were tempted by the flesh of Christ, then in this case, even if they did not repent, they will be forgiven as people who were tempted; and when they saw Him doing the works of God and still blasphemed, how will they be forgiven if they remain unrepentant?

The brothers of the Lord, out of envy, came to take Him, as one who was violent and possessed by a demon. And the Mother, probably by instilling a sense of honor, came to distract Him from the teachings, thus showing the people that she freely disposes of the One Whom they are surprised at and can distract Him from teaching. But the Lord answers: My Mother will not be of any use to be My Mother if she does not combine all the virtues in herself. Likewise, kinship will be useless for my brothers. Because they are only the true relatives of Christ, who do the will of God. So, saying this, He does not renounce the Mother, but shows that She will be worthy of honor not only for birth alone, but also for any other good deed: if she did not have this, then others would have anticipated the honor of kinship.
