Priests urged not to consider astronomical phenomena as signs

The so-called 'supermoon' that happened recently, when the Moon approached the maximum distance to the Earth and increased in size, was perceived by many believers as a bad sign. This point of view is erroneous, Orthodox priests believe.

Hieromonk Macarius believes that the attitude of believers to astronomical phenomena as to apocalyptic signs and signs from above is an 'ugliness' arising from personal ignorance.

In his opinion, ignorance grows on the basis of personal human defects and weaknesses. Today's favorable conditions for the life of the church, he believes, may in part contribute to the development of superstition.

“We love, and it is absolutely right to do, to recall the difficult years - the years of communism, the years of war, years of persecution, years of external suffering.
