The court fined the military who washed shoes in the holy spring

The garrison military court passed sentences to two servicemen of the Baltic Fleet who washed their shoes under a tap with holy water in a chapel near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Kaliningrad.

In September last year, a video appeared on social networks showing how five men in military uniforms laughingly wash their shoes with holy water from a spring in the chapel near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in honor of the icon of the Mother of God. The video received a great public response, collected many negative comments from outraged believers. The Kaliningrad diocese confirmed what had happened, and law enforcement agencies began to check the incident, as a result of which a criminal case was opened on insulting the feelings of believers.

Yesterday the court passed a guilty verdict against two of them. Rasul Saykhanov was sentenced to a fine of 100 thousand rubles. The court took into account his remorse for what he had done and his public apology. Jamaldin Magomedov will have to pay a fine of 200 thousand rubles. He did not admit his guilt, but stated that he did not attach any importance to the fact that the icon was located above the source. At the same time, Magomedov pointed out that he did not want to offend anyone's religious feelings.
