Храм во имя врача-страстотерпца Евгения Боткина заложили в Санкт-Петербурге
On December 18, at the building of the multidisciplinary clinic of the Military Medical Academy of St. Petersburg, the foundation stone of the future church in the name of the holy righteous passion-bearer Yevgeny Botkin was consecrated, a doctor who once graduated from this educational institution and died with the family of the last Russian emperor. The rite of consecration was performed by Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga, co-served by the clergy of the northern capital. Together with the teachers and cadets of the academy, the vice-governor of St. Petersburg Nikolai Bondarenko, as well as representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense, took part in the solemn laying of the stone of the future church. Honored Architect of Russia Mikhail Mamoshin became the author of the project of the temple dedicated to the passion-bearer doctor. According to him, everything is ready for construction - and in a year, by the 220th anniversary of the Academy, the church in memory of the heavenly patron of the educational institution can be completed. A graduate of the academy, Evgeny Botkin served as a military doctor, had a doctorate in medicine for research in the field of immunology. As a physician-in-chief, he voluntarily remained with the family of the last Russian emperor until the last day, and together with it he died at the hands of the Bolshevik executioners. Canonized by a foreign church back in 1981, thirty-five years later by the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church, the physician who was shot in the basement of the Ipatiev House was glorified as a general church, in the rank of passion-bearers - as the righteous Eugene the doctor.
