One hundred abandoned churches of the Vologda region will be put on the balance of the Metropolitanate

Сто заброшенных храмов Вологодчины поставят на баланс митрополии

About a hundred abandoned churches and chapels located in eleven districts of the Vologda region will be taken into the balance of the metropolis and restored at the expense of the church. According to the weekly newspaper Vologda.RF, the goal of the project, which was launched, is not the renovation itself, but the return of churches to a full-fledged liturgical life.

“All these churches are in a depressing state, some are dilapidated and do not have a cross. As soon as the shrines are taken into the ownership of the church, the diocese will draw up restoration projects, the rectors will be appointed, ”explained Vladislav Kalashnikov, assistant to the head of the Vologda Metropolitanate for media relations.

In the regional center, where there are about fifty churches and chapels, there are also objects that require serious repair or restoration, and work is already underway there. So in the Nikolsky Church at the Vvedenskoye cemetery, the vault was fortified, the forests inside the building were restored.

The restoration of the Transfiguration Cathedral on Kamenny Island in Lake Kubenskoye will require a serious investment of manpower and resources. Believers of the Vologda region and other Russian regions have already collected about seven hundred thousand rubles for the restoration of the temple that was blown up in godless times and lying in ruins. Restorers and volunteers began to clear up the rubble at the site of the once majestic temple.
