Previously unknown images of the Mother of God and angelic ranks, as well as an ancient ornament, were discovered by restorers in the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary near the Ferry in Pskov. According to experts, the murals are a rare example of the Pskov monumental painting of the sixteenth century. Церковь Успения Пресвятой Богородицы у Парома во Пскове The find was reported by the Russian TV channel 'Culture'. “Halo and wings are clearly visible. The angels carry the star, its rays are also read. In the center is a half-length image of the Mother of God or the Lord Jesus Christ - an image blessing the one who passed under the arch of the southern entrance to the temple. The iconography can be understood when the whitewash is removed, ”experts comment on the find. Apparently, soon after the construction of the temple in 1521, murals were applied to the facade and the opening of the doors leading to the house of prayer - but then, when the chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin was added to the church on the south side, the images were hidden. Like other old Pskov churches, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary near the Ferry in Pskov keeps many secrets. The rector of the church, Archpriest Alexei Voronyuk, says that behind one of the icons of the third row there is an old cache, in which, in case of danger, hid valuable church utensils. “Now, from the side of the altar, this opening has been laid. We will try to do something to at least look into this story, ”says the father-rector.
