According to VEDOMOSTI-Ural, a preliminary meeting was held in the Arbitration Court of the Sverdlovsk Region on the issue of seizing a plot of land that could be crossed by a tram line connecting the cities of Yekaterinburg and Verkhnyaya Pyshma. The plaintiff in the process is the mayor's office of the Ural capital, the defendant is the Yekaterinburg diocese; the investor and at the same time the construction contractor was the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC). If the court decides in favor of the plaintiff, the Church of John the Baptist at 184 Cosmonauts Street may be demolished. Instead, the UMMC offers believers to build a new church in the Emerald Bor microdistrict. And to demolish the old one, having paid compensation for it in the amount of 3,376,000 rubles. However, the Yekaterinburg diocese did not agree with this proposal. The cleric of the Church on the Blood, Archpriest Maxim Menyailo, noted that the demolition of the temple is in principle unacceptable, and its relocation is extremely undesirable. After all, the very place on which the temple is being built is sacred: it is carefully chosen with prayer and then consecrated with a special church rite. In this case, the best solution, according to the diocese administration, would be the construction of a tram line to bypass the existing church of St. John the Baptist.
