As reported by Radio Prague, on February 8, the Czech Orthodox Church ranked among the saints three priests who helped the Resistance participants Josef Gabczyk and Jan Kubis, who in May 1942 liquidated the head of the Main Directorate of Imperial Security, SS Obergruppenfuehrer Reinhard Heydrich - “Protector of Bohemia and Moravia '.
The priests Vladimir Petrshek, Vaclav Chikl and Jan Sonnevend hid seven members of the group in the dungeon of the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, providing them with everything they needed. A sabotage group abandoned in the occupied territory was preparing Operation Anthropoid to liquidate a prominent figure of the Third Reich, which it successfully carried out: a few days after the shooting of Heydrich's car, he died in hospital.
After the completion of the operation, the Gestapo tracked down the whereabouts of the group members. The Nazis stormed the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, and all members of the Resistance were killed in battle. And three priests of the temple, who helped them, were executed by the Gestapo. The activities of the Czech Orthodox Church were banned, all property belonging to it was confiscated, and the clergy were repressed.
“They were patriots who proved that behind the words they utteredemptiness is not worth it. They backed them up with their actions, ”said about the three newly-glorified clergy of the Czech Orthodox
