According to Thomas magazine with reference to the Orthodoxie.com portal, five hundred and twenty residents of the city of Kimamba (Tanzania) became Orthodox Christians after the mass baptism at the local parish of St. George. Built by the Greeks in 1952, the Church of St. George was destroyed by an earthquake in 2008 and has now been rebuilt. Before baptism, the newly-baptized graduated from catechism courses at the parish. And at the end of the ordinance, many of them received the first sacrament. The next day, the sacrament of marriage was performed on several couples from among the novice Christians. With the blessing of Metropolitan Dimitri of Irinupol (Dar-es-Salaam), five Africans became readers - and will now carry this obedience in five new churches that opened last year and are located in the eastern part of the country, in the Morogoro missionary district. Metropolitan of Irinupol addressed with words of gratitude to the Orthodox Greeks living in Tanzania, who worked hard, helping the clergy of the local metropolitanate of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in their missionary work.
