The first All-Russian Forum of Orthodox Tour Guides is being held online

Первый Всероссийский форум православных экскурсоводов проходит в онлайн-формате
The first All-Russian Forum of Orthodox Tour Guides, organized by the Patriarch's Council for Culture, began its work yesterday in Moscow. Given the difficult epidemiological situation associated with the spread of the coronavirus, the event is being held online.
Metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhov Tikhon (Shevkunov) asked the Orthodox guides a rhetorical question: what is more important - to tell about the height of the belfry and the weight of the bell on it, or about why people move away from the world and over time some of them begin to be worshiped as saints of the Lord God?

According to the Chairman of the Patriarchal Council for Culture, Orthodox guides should “convey to the people the main thing: for the sake of which these churches and monasteries were created, icons were painted, other works of art were created. This is our task. This does not mean that everyone will immediately become believers and we will baptize everyone and bring them to the Russian Orthodox Church in orderly ranks. Not. But, of course, we must open this part and the main part of the church heritage ”.
The online forum was attended by directors of a number of large museums of Russia. Zelfira Tregulova, who heads the Tretyakov Gallery, where the Trinity of Rublev and the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos 'Vladimirskaya' - revered icons, before the lists of which many thousands of believers pray daily, are located - shared her experience of cooperation with the Church during the preparation of the exhibition 'Treasures of Russian Museums' held in Moscow. “Russian art is about meanings,” - following Metropolitan Tikhon, the Director General of the State Tretyakov Gallery emphasized.
Director of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve Svetlana Melnikova recalled that even in godless times, museum workers, contrary to instructions from above, tried to present visitors with the true history of Russia, trying to avoid Soviet propaganda clichés as much as possible. “Despite the party control, despite the harshest restrictions, it was absolutely clear to us working in the museum space that it was impossible to tear the country's history, to tear it away from the history of the Russian Orthodox Church,” she said.
Elena Morozova, director of the Tauric Chersonesos Museum, also took part in the online forum. Formally, this museum-monument of the Byzantine civilization joined the Russian museum community six years ago, but de facto has long occupied one of the most important places in it. “It is always easy and pleasant for us to say that the Tauric Chersonesos is the font of the Russian Orthodoxy and the foundation of Russian statehood, because it was from this place that the system of values began and was born, which, thank God, is still developing and reviving in our country, ”Elena Morozova emphasized.
Addressing the directors of Russian museums, Metropolitan Tikhon proposed, together with the Patriarch's Council for Culture, to develop methodological materials for excursion work in the locations of Orthodox shrines in Russia. As the Kultura TV channel notes, Vladyka Tikhon emphasized that these would be recommendations: what is somehow connected in faith should not be imposed in any case.
