The first sacrament of baptism with sign language interpretation was held in the capital of the Republic of Mari-El

Первое таинство крещения с сурдопереводом прошло в столице республики Марий-Эл
According to the Yoshkar-Ola portal PROgorod, on June 9, in the capital of the republic, in the Annunciation Cathedral, the sacrament of Baptism was performed for the first time, which was accompanied by sign language translation. It was performed by the priest Nikifor Zakharov, the confessor of the Orthodox Society of the Deaf, acting at the main church of the Yoshkar-Ola and Mari diocese. Two hearing impaired people, Vitaly and Fyodor, were baptized. The entire sequence of baptism was accompanied by gestures by the translator of the society of the deaf, Mikhail Vinogorov. The purpose of this addition to the sacrament is to make the ordinance of baptism as clear as possible for new-born Christians. It should be noted that before the sacrament was performed, two men underwent a course of public discourse, each of which was also accompanied by sign language interpretation. It is interesting that a number of gestures refer exclusively to church themes and were completely new for those who were baptized. The very next day after baptism, Vitaly and Fyodor received the first holy communion in their lives. Photo: MariMedia
