According to RIA Novosti, on Sunday, during his traditional sermon, the head of the Western Church congratulated those who celebrate it according to the lunar calendar a Happy New Year. This tradition is followed by millions of people in different countries, for whom the new year comes at the end of the full lunar cycle that has passed after the winter solstice. In China and other Asian countries, the celebration of this New Year lasts about two weeks. 'In the Far East and in various parts of the world, on February 5, millions of men and women will celebrate the Lunar New Year. I would like to cordially greet all of them, wishing that their families cultivate virtues that help them live in peace with themselves, with others and with the universe.' - said Pope Francis, addressing the believers gathered in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. The celebration of the New Year, timed to coincide with the winter new moon, is a tradition from that part of the world where a large number of Christians live among people of different cultures and religions. The Pope called for prayer for the acquisition of the gift of peace by all people of the Earth. We will remind that for the first time the Pontiff congratulated those celebrating the New Year according to the lunar calendar three years ago.
