'Grandfather Dobri from Baylovo' - a Bulgarian, whom the whole world knew, is gone, Life reports. For a quarter of a century, the old man daily collected alms and donated what he collected for the construction and reconstruction of Christian churches in his native country. Nine years ago, he donated € 18,250 for the renovation of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the largest private donation in the history of this century-old church. Dobri Dobrev led the life of a hermit in a tiny house on a church courtyard - inside his dwelling there was only a table and a bed.
Nevertheless (or perhaps precisely because of this) an elderly man from the village of Baylovo, not far from Sofia, was known in different parts of the world thanks to the Internet. Each of the several pages created by the elder's admirers on social networks has thousands of subscribers. The press called him “the living saint”, and artists and photographers from different countries created a number of wonderful images of “grandfather Dobri”. Perhaps the most famous of these is the graffiti on the wall of a house in the Bulgarian capital, in which a gray-haired old man holds a lighted candle to his chest with both hands.
