Vatican Swiss Guard recruits begin exercises

Новобранцы Швейцарской гвардии Ватикана приступили к учениям

On June 1, training began for the Papal Guards, who had just been recruited. These events cannot be called mass events: this year only five people take part in them. Classes will last a little over a month - and in July, according to Vatican News, the recruits will take up their duties in the Guard of the State of Vatican City.

Participation in parades and ceremonies is far from the only, but very important part of the service of the Swiss Guard of the Holy See.

At the beginning of the training, military personnel get acquainted with the territory of the city-state, its institutions, buildings, be it offices or a house of prayer, the responsibility for the protection of which lies with the Swiss Guard. After them, as it should be at any service, a medical examination awaits. The next, practical stage of the exercises will take place in the fall - the guards will visit Switzerland, where the parade ground for the Isone army special forces is located. Here they will have classes in tactics, safety and self-defense, which are held under the guidance of the police of the canton of Ticino. In addition, recruits will study the basics of psychology, receive the necessary legal knowledge, learn how to provide first aid to rescue affected. When the exercise is over, the guards will return to the Vatican and continue to serve.
