Nicholas Cathedral in Nice can be called the best monument of architecture in France

The Russian Cathedral in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Nice can be recognized as the best architectural monument in France. According to INTERFAX Religion, this Orthodox cathedral on the Cote d'Azur - the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe - was included in the shortlist of the national competition 'The best architectural monument of France - 2020'.

This year, fourteen nominees claim to win the competition - not only houses of prayer, but also other widespread sights of France. Among them - the Parisian Church of Sainte-Chapelle, the palace and park complex Champs-de-Bataille in Normandy and the Belfort Citadel.
Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi has supported the nomination of the Cathedral of Nicholas the Wonderworker for the prestigious annual competition. Recall that this cathedral, which has the status of a cathedral, was built at the beginning of the last century in memory of the untimely departed son of the Russian Emperor Alexander II - Grand Duke Nicholas, who passed away to the Lord God in these places after a long illness. Funds for the construction of the grandiose rescue ship - Nikolsky Cathedral in Nice - were contributed by Nicholas II, Empress Dowager Maria Fedorovna and other donors from Russia.
For almost a century, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Nice was under the jurisdiction of the 'Russian Exarchate of Western Europe' subordinate to Constantinople, but in 2011 a French court recognized the ownership of this temple for the Russian Federation.
