Madonna who moves her hand. Chapel Our Lady of the Grotto in Malta

The island of Malta is full of amazing sites associated with Christian miracles. One of the most notable among them is the semi-underground chapel of Madonna the Victorious in Mellieha. Its main revered shrine is the statue of the Ever-Virgin, whose hand is said to move from time to time.

It is the oldest of the statues of the Virgin Mary on the island. The very same chapel Our Lady of the Grotto was arranged in a natural cave, where in the old days, as legend says, Madonna appeared to a hunter. It is believed that prayers with a request for healing and the opportunity to have a child are especially strong in this place. The walls of the chapel are literally covered with written testimonies of grateful people who received what they wanted through the mercy of the Most Pure One - as well as photographs of children who were born.

Where not long ago light and air penetrated through a window cut in the stone massif, electric lighting and ventilation have been installed today. Which, however, does not in any way interfere with the special prayer mood of the person who went down to the chapel. Moreover, this place is rarely visited by tourists - but Catholic pilgrims can be found in the chapel at any time of the year.
