Next year the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria will elect a new bishop for itself. Its current leader, Arri Kugappi, who has been in office since 1995, will soon turn 67, and this is the age limit for a church leader.

On October 19 this year in St. Petersburg, in the Cathedral of St. Mary on Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street, elections will be held for a new bishop of the Church of Ingria. Pastor Olav Panchu, rector of the Saratov parish of St. John, chief secretary of the parish of the Cathedral of St. Mary, rector of the parish in Gubnitsy and rector of the Haapakansgas parish in Yukki, Vsevolzhsky district, are applying for this post. It is known about the candidates that each of them served in the armed forces and has a family. More than half of the votes of the members of the Synod will be required to win one of the candidates for the post of head of the church. Each of the voters will receive a ballot paper, in which any sign will need to be put in front of the name of the desired candidate.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria is a member of the International Lutheran Council (ILS). The church has been operating in Russia since 1992. Initially, the services were conducted in Finnish; since 2000, Russian has become the main liturgical language.
