Many believers consecrated willow branches on the Feast of the Lord's Entry into Jerusalem. What should you do with them then? The cleric of the Church of the Forty Sebastian Martyrs in the Spasskaya Sloboda, Archpriest Maxim Pervozvansky, spoke about this.
The priest noted that there are no special instructions on what to do with the consecrated willow branches. As a rule, the consecrated willow branches are kept in the red corner, next to the icons for a year, however, this is not at all necessary - they can be thrown away or burned. Although, of course, they must be treated with reverence, as with any consecrated object. After sanctifying something, people dedicate this object to God.
Consecration of willows is a tradition that has developed exclusively in Russia. When the Savior entered Jerusalem, people spread palm branches under his feet and brandished them. But in Russia, the willow is the only plant that blooms for Holy Week. Therefore, believers began to use the branches of this particular plant.
