Call for peace in Nagorno-Karabakh sounds from Jerusalem

The primates and representatives of the Christian churches of Jerusalem appealed to the presidents of Russia and the United States, the heads of European states and the UN Secretary General with a declaration calling to intervene and put an end to confrontation and violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, stopping the armed conflict in which Azerbaijan and Armenia are involved.

In the Holy City, prayers of representatives of different confessions are offered daily for the healing of the sick and the wounded, the consolation of those left homeless, the repose of the dead and the speedy end of the enmity. However, in order for the bloodshed to end, the solidarity of political leaders is needed. “Innocent people perished again, many men, women and children were forced to leave their homes because of the horrors of the war,” says the document, which is signed by the patriarchs and heads of Jerusalem churches.
The final part of the declaration contains a call to politicians to reflect on the words of the prophet Isaiah, inspired by the Lord God: “And He will judge the nations, and will convict many tribes; and hammer their swords into plowshares, and their spears - on the sickles: the people will not raise the sword against the people, and they will no longer learn to fight ”(Isaiah 2, 4).
