Archpriest Georgy Smorkalov, the military priest of the public organization 'Great Don Host', considers it unacceptable that the representatives of the Cossacks would be involved in order not to let the faithful into churches for prayer during the services of Holy Week and Easter. A number of Russian regions have already received such orders.

According to the Donskoy Telegraph news agency, the well-known Don priest announced his position after consultations on this issue with the chairman of the Synodal Committee for Cooperation with the Cossacks of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Let us recall that historically the Cossacks, regardless of the territory of origin, professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and acted as its defenders; cases when the Cossacks would prevent Christians from meeting their religious needs, world history does not know. The last in Russia who tried to do this, not letting young people into churches on Easter and Christmas, were members of the Komsomol patrols, which were abolished back in 1988.
The Christian educational project 'The Candle of Jerusalem' fully supports the position of Archpriest Georgy Smorkalov and calls on everyone who considers themselves to be Cossacks to think more often about their own salvation and the freedom of will given to each person.
