The jewels taken by the thieves from the Iberian Icon were returned

Драгоценности, снятые ворами с Иверской иконы, удалось вернуть
Rings, pendants, chains and other donations, for a long time left by grateful believers at the miraculous icon of the Mother of God 'Goalkeeper' in the Iversky Monastery (Iveron) on Mount Athos, were stolen by intruders on the night of June 13-14. In less than a day, the stolen values were returned thanks to the quick, coordinated actions of the Athos administration, the police and the coast guard.

According to the portal about the monastic heritage of Mount Athos with reference to Romfea, five unknown persons broke the glass in front of the venerated Iveron Icon of the Mother of God and removed all the donations that adorned it. After a short time, the monk, who came to light the lamps in front of the icon, discovered the loss and reported it to the monastery abbot, Archimandrite Nathaniel. The search was started immediately, thanks to which it was possible to get on the trail of the kidnappers very quickly. Trapped in a crevice by helicopters and dogs, the thieves were forced to throw away the stolen goods. Three of their five abductors were detained shortly thereafter. They all came to Athos from Romania. Initially, the thieves planned to steal not only the jewelry, but the icon itself. Recall, according to Holy Tradition, the Iberian icon of the Mother of God 'Goalkeeper' - one of the most revered by Orthodox Christians - was written by the holy apostle and evangelist Luke. For a long time, the image was on the territory of Asia Minor, in Nicaea - and since the XI century has been constantly on Athos, in a monastery that was named after her. Over the centuries, many people have received from the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God consolation and help with hardships and sorrows - as well as healing from demonic possession, blindness, lameness and many diseases. And the brethren of the holy monastery, through prayers at the icon of the Queen of Heaven, more than once received help in the form of replenishing the monastery's stocks of flour, oil and wine.
