We sincerely congratulate you on a bright, magical holiday - Merry Christmas!
He's magical, of course, not in the occult sense. The point here is completely different. More than two thousand years ago, the incomprehensible happened in the world - God Himself was born into the world as a man to bring salvation to people. It is impossible to comprehend this even with the most sophisticated mind. To touch this great mystery is available only to the heart, in which faith and love live.
We often hear: people are always the same, and the world does not change. This is not the case for the Christian worldview. The Nativity of Christ changed both the world and man beyond recognition. If in the harsh Old Testament times people were only witnesses of the power and justice of God, then on the night when the star of Bethlehem shone over the world, every person had hope for personal salvation, for deliverance from original sin. It happened on that very night, when in a cold cave in a manger, the newly born and swaddled Son of God was laid on the straw. Warmed by the breath of animals, the Divine Infant slept peacefully. And from the east, the wise wise men were already hurrying to him, having spiritually comprehended what a great thing had happened: God forgave the person and again calls him to Himself.
In our time, Christmas is adjacent to the calendar with another, secular holiday - New Year. In connection with it, from adults it often happens to hear complaints: they say there is no longer that New Year's joy that was in childhood ... With Christmas, everything is completely different. After all, his joy is of a completely different kind; it does not depend on how old you are, how much the festive table is bursting with food and how many fireworks and rockets were launched into the sky this time. Christmas joy comes from the very heart and therefore never leaves us - if, of course, we believe that Christ who was born on this night is the Son of God and the Savior of people. Here are some wonderful words that the Russian New Martyr, Metropolitan of Kiev Vladimir (Epiphany) said about the joy of Christmas: “The joys of the Nativity of Christ never grow old for us, and we do not become too old for them. Even the old man standing on the edge of the tomb, like the elder Simeon, is delighted when he remembers his Savior. '
Each of those who, to the best of their ability, observed the holy and saving time of fasting and approached Christmas as the main and long-awaited event crowning the church year, is now fully able to experience this holy joy. It permeates both the holiday itself and the following Christmas days.
It is this joy that the words of greeting that sounds these days are full of:
Christ is born, praise!
