On May 5-8, Tehran will host the eleventh meeting of the Russian-Iranian commission for dialogue in the Orthodoxy-Islam format. According to the decision of the Holy Synod, the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church at the meeting will be headed by the Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan Theophanes. The work of the Russian-Iranian Commission for the Dialogue of the Two World Religions began in 1997. Working meetings were held alternately in the capitals of the two states. The focus of the dialogue participants is the role of religion in the modern world, exchange between cultures, human rights, spiritual and moral issues, challenges of the era of globalization, issues of terrorism and extremism. This time, in addition to Metropolitan Theophanes, the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church will also include the rector of the Nicholas Cathedral in Tehran, Archimandrite Alexander (Zarkeshev), head of the theology department of the Moscow State Linguistic University, Archpriest Lev Semyonov, Honored Professor of the Moscow Theological Academy Alexei Osipov, senior researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Elena Dunaeva, as well as clergy and laity - employees of the Department for External Church Relations.
