The Russian Orthodox Church has spoken out against the initiative to equip all premises of monasteries and churches with video tracking systems. It is reported by Vechernyaya Moskva.
The position of the Church on this issue was voiced by the head of the legal department of the Moscow Patriarchate Ksenia Chernega. She noted that video cameras should be present where mass services or pilgrimages take place. Whereas in monastic cells and rooms where closed prayer meetings are held, they cannot be established. In such places, it is necessary to be guided by 'the internal regulations of religious entities,' she said. It should be reminded that the initiative to equip religious objects with security cameras was made by the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC). The Russian Orthodox Church expressed confidence that a reasonable compromise would be reached on this issue.
