Description & properties

Today the church uses various meltable materials to produce candles, most common of them being wax and paraffin. Both are used in the world-known Jerusalem candle, which consists of 33 candles – symbolizing the number of years Jesus spent on Earth – small candles bundled together and decorated with a Resurrection icon featuring the Savior, the cross of the Temple of the Holy Sepulcher and the inscription “Holy Land. Jerusalem”. An Easter icon, Our Savior’s icon and the cross are venerated by Christians of different countries and confessions, and grouped together they bring the Good News of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. The candle blessed on the Stone of Anointing at Jerusalem’s Temple of the Holy Sepulcher will bring to your home a piece of Easter joy from the Heavenly City or will become a great gift for your friends and family. This festive candle bundle is lit in front of the icon or at the table during the great holiday as it is, without breaking it up into parts. It is worth noting that as distinguished from the wax candle, Jerusalem paraffin candle has no expiry date and will never look dated — it may be lit for very special occasions even if they are decades apart.
