The competition is held within the framework of the regional stage of the All-Russian review of spiritual life in places of confinement 'Not by number, but by humility.' It is organized by the Prison Service Sector of the Department for Cooperation with the Armed Forces, Law Enforcement and Correctional Institutions of the Yekaterinburg Diocese and the Directorate of the GUFSIN of Russia in the Sverdlovsk Region. The direction of the competition works is connected with the main theme of the XXIX international Christmas educational readings in the institutions of the GUFSIN: 'Alexander Nevsky: West and East, the historical memory of the people', which implies the understanding of patriotism as one of the important national values. For this reason, the participants of the competition, among other works, will be able to present their iconographic images of the faithful and equal to the apostles princes, generals, numbered by the Church among the saints of the Lord. God, as well as holy warriors who gave their lives 'for their friends' during wars and armed conflicts from the times of ancient Russia to the present day. The competition will help artistically gifted people in correctional institutions to realize their abilities and learn more about the Orthodox culture and native history. In addition to icons, drawings, paintings and other works of fine art may also be presented to the jury.
Let us remind you that the “Phenomenon” competition for convicts has been held on the territory of the Yekaterinburg Metropolis for a decade and a half. During this time, the artistic level of the works presented to him has noticeably increased. In addition to creating the image itself, such a creative work requires from a person spiritual reflection, repentance, inner prayer, and deep immersion in church history. For this reason, holding an annual competition can well be considered part of the process of correcting people serving sentences.
