Tomorrow, December 17, at 19:00, in the Gallery of classic photography at the address: Moscow, Savvinskaya embankment, 23, building 1 (metro station 'Sportivnaya') the multimedia exhibition 'Valaam. Space out of time ”. According to National Geographic Russia, the exhibition, timed to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of one of the most famous monastic cloisters in Russia, will feature originals and 3D reconstructions of old photos, circular VR panoramas from the Valaam mobile application, 19th-20th century artifacts from private collections and portraits of the inhabitants of the monastery by contemporary artists.

Shooting people who have chosen the path of monasticism is not an easy and delicate job. After all, those who are filmed must have great confidence in the photographer. In our time, one of those who managed to earn a calm, trusting attitude from the Valaam monks was the priest Igor Palkin, who for many years in a row came to the island - both at work and at the behest of his soul - and took many amazing photos during these travels.
Among the works made by lay photographers, it is undoubtedly worth noting the photographs of the masters from the ART of FOTO group - Vadim Levin, Roman Zemlyachiv and Igor Smolnikov. For them, the Valaam Monastery of the 21st century, with its abbot and inhabitants, became the discovery of a whole new world. This world is reflected in a series of filigree photographic portraits shot in traditional technique with a large format camera.
Exhibition “Valaam. Timeless Space ”will run in Moscow until January 30, 2020.
