After large-scale works, the Cathedral of the Ascension of the Lord in Almaty (Kazakhstan) was reopened for parishioners. This was reported by the MIR 24 TV channel.
The restoration of the cathedral in one of the largest cities of Kazakhstan cost about two billion tenge. The renovated Orthodox church can accommodate about seven hundred worshipers. On the opening day, it was packed with believers.

The process of renovation of the cathedral was cardinal - it touched both the external appearance of the building and its interior. A new iconostasis was installed. For the first time in 112 years old crosses were dismantled at the cathedral and new ones crowning the domes were installed. Specialists from the Russian Yaroslavl were invited especially for this work. After dismantling, the historical details of the cathedral's structure are carefully stored in a special room, where the optimal levels of temperature and humidity are strictly observed air.
It should be noted that for two and a half years - the time it took for the reconstruction - the cathedral was never completely closed for believers. Divine services were performed in a designated safe space. Now the temple has changed - it is reopened for parishioners as a whole, and at the same time it has become much more comfortable. In particular, benches have appeared here for the elderly.
Despite the scale of the restoration work carried out, the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty has retained its original structure. It was built without a single nail in accordance with a unique technology, thanks to which the building is not afraid of even an earthquake.
